Behind the Story: "I Jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and Survived"

This is a story that initially stemmed out of pure curiosity. Growing up in the Bay Area, every time I would cross the Golden Gate Bridge as a child I remember being struck by how stunningly beautiful it was and how peaceful the San Francisco skyline looked in the distance. As I grew up and became aware of the devastating number of suicides on the bridge, I also wondered about the people who ultimately took their own lives at this site and what led them there.

Only about 2% of people survive the jump. I found two men who lived and brought them together to talk about their stories; what went through their minds as they fell and what would they tell themselves if they could go back? Both said the moment their fingers left the railing, they were overcome with instant regret. I am honored they shared their story, it is one of mistakes, survival, and second chances.
